*** Bulgaria Citizenship & Residency Update, April 2022: As a consequence of external and internal political factors, the Bulgarian Parliament has adopted amendments to the Bulgarian Citizenship Act. The bill removes sections 12a and 14a, specifically the provisions related to the "Fast Track" 18-months application processing option. The option to obtain permanent residency on the basis of investment remains, so does a route to citizenship after 5 years in residency status. The only remaining alternative to receiving citizenship in under 2 years is the Malta (EU) "Granting of Citizenship for Exceptional Services Regulations". ***
